Year 10 and 12 pupils have an opportunity to take part in five days of work experience during the Summer term.  Letters have been sent home to parents/carers.  If your child requires any help with organising a placement then please see Mrs Brookes or their form tutor. 

On Thursday 6 January, Year 11 will take part in a Sixth Form and Further Education day.  On the evening of the same day we will be holding our Sixth Form Open Evening from 4.30 pm - 6.30 pm.

We have been running a very popular Christmas craft club over the past few weeks on a Wednesday after school. Week 1 was making gift tags, week 2 was cards and week 3 was making woolly hat decorations. Week 4 we will be making Christmas wrapping paper.

The Sixth Form visited Liverpool and enjoyed a whistle stop tour of the Liverpool University buildings. They then took a ferry tour across the Mersey taking in the sights, followed by some free time in Liverpool City Centre. 

In school this week we are celebrating success by holding our annual rewards assemblies.  Congratulations to all the pupils who were nominated by their teachers, Head of Year and Headteacher.  

The Autumn term ends for pupils on Thursday 16 December 2021.  After lunch and registration pupils will be free to leave school at 1.05 pm. A Level biology pupils had a successful Fieldtrip to Mawbray Banks nature reserve near Allonby to study sand dune succession. This area of special scientific interested also includes a preserved 8000 year old forest, endangered species and remains of world war II operational signs and conservation cattle.

Our Year 7's have been learning all about the amount of sugar contained in certain foods. They have experimented with reduced sugar fairy cakes. The Rt Rev Paul Swarbrick visited the school on Friday 22 October 2021 to commemorate the official opening of St John Henry Newman School with the celebration of Holy Mass in joy and thanksgiving to Almighty God and in hope of grace and future blessings.

Congratulations to Olivia Dembinska in 7API for competing in the British Youth Sailing Regional Junior Championships at the weekend on Derwent reservoir. She came in sixth place overall, but was first female finisher.
