Guidance for Pupils, parents and guardians: GCSEs and AS/A Levels in England

Pupil grades this year have been awarded via Teacher Assessment. Pupils completed many different assessments so that staff could award an accurate and honest grade. This process included rigorous moderation and quality assurance at the centre. Exam boards then reviewed the grades submitted and performed quality assurance checks before awarding the final grade.

All pupils have the opportunity to appeal their grade but only if they meet specific criteria, see guidance below. There are 3 outcomes to an appeal. It is important to note that the original grade may be lowered but it can also stay the same or be increased.  Priority appeals will be given to those pupils who have not received the grades they require to cement their university place. Appeals in this case must be made before August 16th.  For all other appeals school must be notified by September 1st by emailing exams@newman.cumbria.sch.uk

If you don’t wish to appeal, pupils have the option to resit their examinations in the autumn but the content and marking will be of the same standard in a normal examinable series. This is an opportunity to resit the exam but please note school cannot provide any teaching for any resits.

If you wish to resit an exam then you must let the Examination’s Officer as soon as possible, entries have to be processed at the start of September so if you wish to resit please email exams@newman.cumbria.sch.uk before September 1st.

Please read the document below for additional guidance.
