St John Henry Newman Catholic School was judged as good in all areas last May, we are very proud of the hard work of all our staff. We are seeking to appoint a creative, forward thinking and dynamic Science Teacher to join our successful Science department. 

Our Science department comprises of specialist teachers in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. We deliver the National Curriculum using Activate resources to KS3, then we move on to AQA Trilogy for GCSE with the top set completing the AQA Triple Award. As we have specialists in all fields we are able to deliver A Level Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Applied Science. As a department we are lucky to be supported by two excellent technicians who support us with our practical work, they are always on hand to try new practicals and enjoy coming up with new ways to carry out practicals. As a department in our new school building we are all located on the same floor, with six large science labs and an enviably large prep room, all with views across the playing fields and farm fields.  

St John Henry Newman Catholic School supports career development and progression with excellent resources available. We are interested in talking to both experienced teachers looking for a new challenge as well as Early Career Teachers of any Science specialism. For Early Career Teachers we work with One Cumbria and Teach First to provide the Early Career Framework.

St John Henry Newman Catholic School wish to appoint an enthusiastic, creative, committed and suitably experienced teacher to co-ordinate the work of the Learning Support Department.

You will be an outstanding teacher who is capable of enhancing numeracy and literacy skills and also demonstrate good leadership skills with the ability to motivate, inspire and communicate good practice. You will have had experience liaising or communicating with parents.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the statutory responsibilities for students with special needs (and disabilities) and will be supported by a large team of educational support staff.

You should hold the Award for Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator or be prepared to secure the qualification within 3 years of appointment and also undertake training on Exam Access. You will review Education Healthcare Plans and ensure provision is in place across the school to meet pupil’s needs. You will need an in-depth knowledge of the SEN Code of Practice and the EHCP provision. You should have a clear vision for the provision of pupils with Special Educational Needs. In addition to this role you may have a teaching commitment.

Teaching Asistant

Fixed term contract

Part time (25 hours per week), term time only (38 weeks per year)

PCD5 £12,495 per annum pro rata (FTE £21,968) plus annual leave entitlement

St John Henry Newman Catholic School is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and able teaching assistant for our popular school.

You will be part of a team who work collaboratively in class and provide support to a number of pupils with special educational needs. You will work under the direct instruction of teaching/senior staff, usually in the classroom with the teacher to support access to learning for pupils and provide general support to the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom.

The successful candidate will be:

· passionate about supporting pupils to gain an inspirational education

· highly organised and able to prioritise workload

· an outstanding practitioner with high expectations of pupils achievement and behaviour who is committed to providing high quality teacher and classroom support

· an excellent communicator who is able to work inclusively with pupils and staff

Current working hours are:

Monday to Friday 9.10am – 3.05pm. There is also the flexibility to extend these hours to start earlier and/or finish later to work with the pupils.

 

Please note this post is on an initial fixed term basis, until July 2024 with the potential to be extended depending on support required for the next academic year.

Exam Invigilator

We are looking to recruit additional Exam Invigilators to ensure the fair and proper conduct of examinations in our school.

Lesson Cover Supervisor

As a Cover Supervisor, your role will involve delivering pre planned lessons in the absence of the teacher. The main job is to manage a classroom, ensuring that pupils remain on task with the work they have been set. This position is part time and term time only. Applicants need to be flexible with working hours. Full training will be provided.
